Under the direction of the Central Services Captain, performs skilled work as a locksmith; installs, repairs, and maintains cylinder and bit key locks, and padlocks; opens locks; changes lock combinations; repairs or replaces tumblers, springs, and other parts; keeps records and inventories keys; performs related, door inspection, doorknobs, and door strikes; orders and stores material for the Lock Shop. Maintains security of working areas and work materials; responsible to maintain the safety of persons and property.

The Locksmith has a small office/shop in the B Bunker. On-site work includes servicing locks in all areas of the prison, indoors and outdoors, primarily on cement floors.
Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. While off duty, the Locksmith is subject to being called in for emergencies.**Do not include any confidential information on any documents you submit for a job vacancy, such as your State application, resume, or educational transcripts.

**Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. **Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
